Border agents say they have arrested a man wanted by the International Criminal Police Organization for sexual abuse of a minor.
According to a release from Customs and Border Protection, agents were patrolling near the U.S.-Mexico border in the Dulzura area on Friday, Jan. 3 when they stopped an SUV on the 94 freeway for an immigration inspection.
During the inspection, the agent discovered that the passengers in the car did not have proper documents and took them, along with the driver, to a nearby Border Patrol station.
At the station, they discovered through record checks that the driver — a citizen of Spain — not only had overstayed a visa, but was also the subject of an INTERPOL Red Notice.
A “Red Notice” is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action. It is based on an arrest warrant or court order issued by the judicial authorities in the requesting country.
Additionally, the man had been sought by U.S. Marshals and other law enforcement agencies in recent months due to the Red Notice.
Border Patrol seized the vehicle and notified INTERPOL of the arrest.
The suspect has not been identified at this time.
