The legend of Jayden Daniels’ rookie season continues to grow.
Washington’s stellar first-year quarterback was undeterred in his post-season debut, as he guided the Commanders to a 23-20 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Sunday night’s outing on wild card weekend on a doink field goal with no time on the clock.
The former Heisman Trophy winner had a standout performance, completing 24 of his 35 pass attempts for 268 yards and two touchdowns.
With the win, he became only the 12th rookie QB in NFL history to earn a playoff win.
Daniels turned the tides of the game in the fourth quarter, capitalizing off a Buccaneers fumble to throw a TD to Terry McLaurin four plays later and snatch away the lead.
Following a Buccaneers field goal on the ensuing possession, Daniels once again rallied his team down the field in a drive that chewed most of the remaining clock and set the Commanders up for the game-winning field goal that bounced off the goalpost and in.
With the win, the Commanders, who hadn’t won a playoff game in 19 years, will advance to the divisional round to take on the first-seed Detroit Lions.
