Boys basketball

Resurrection Christian 86, Steamboat Springs 35, in Steamboat Springs: The Cougars stayed undefeated on the year, moving to 7-0 with the dominant win. Resurrection Christian opens Class 3A Patriot League play Tuesday at Frontier Academy.

Windsor 57, Centauras 33, in Windsor: The Wizards put this one away early, outscoring Centauras by 16 in the opening frame on the way to a comfortable win.

Haxtun 50, Prarie 30, in Haxtun: Haxtun snapped a two-game Prarie win streak with the 20-point home win.

Girls basketball

Platte Valley 61, Wellington 47, in Kersey: Thanks to an explosive second quarter in which they outscored Wellington 25-8, the Broncos moved to 8-2 on the year. Senior Lauryn Uyemura paced Platte Valley with 24 points and a staggering 16 steals. Freshman Bryla Bunting added 19 points and five steals.

Grandview 70, Roosevelt 43, in Johnstown: The Roughriders dropped just their second game on the season, falling to Class 6A Grandview. Roosevelt led by two after the first quarter before the Wolves outscored the Roughriders 19-5 in the second period. Three Roosevelt players finished with double digit points — Kyla Hollier (14), Ryan Bahnsen-Price (13) and Payton Terry (10).

Haxtun 48, Prarie 37, in Haxtun: Prarie has lost three of its last four after falling to Haxtun. After starting both halves strong, the Mustangs were outscored by 14 total in the second and fourth quarters.

Boys wrestling

Valley tops slew of Weld County schools at Valley Viking Invitational, in Gilcrest: The home team came out on top of all other Weld teams, finishing third with 140.5 points. Eaton (fifth place, 123 points), Highland (sixth, 115), Dayspring Christian (seventh, 101), University (eighth, 87), and Platte Valley (ninth, 86.5) rounded out the counties finishers.

Garret McGirl (150 pounds) and Rocky Hoffschneider (165) both took home gold for the Vikings, McGirl by pinfall in 5:06 and Hoffschneider by medical forfeit. Xavier Garcia (106) and Diego Manriquez (132) both finished second.

The Reds also had a pair of top finishers, with Blake Hawkins (113) winning by technical fall and Cal Sidwell (190) pinning Highland’s Ira Sittner in 4:49 in the final.

Along with Sittner, 138-pounder Tyler Varra also took home Silver for the Huskies. Korbin Hoke (187) brought home a third-place finish.

Dayspring was paced by Liam DeBoer (126), who won his class with an 8-4 decision in the championship match. Logan Clark (150) took home silver, while Elijah Martin (144) and Joseph Once (165) both placed fourth.

Connor Simonds (285) was the lone champion for the Bulldogs, pinning his final-round opponent in 2:59. Kaleb Brawner (175) took home third place, and Ayden Arellano (120) finished fourth.

Despite finishing ninth — the lowest of any Weld team — the Broncos had two individual champions. Logan Vannest (132) won his final match by technical fall, 19-3, while 175-pounder Jason Harrison pinned his final opponent in 5:52.

Windsor fourth, Greeley Central fifth at Golden Eagle Invitational, in Longmont:

Windsor narrowly edged Greeley Central for fourth place, and the top Weld County finisher at the Golden Eagle invitational. Windsor racked up 122.5 points, 10 more than Central’s 115.5.

Gabe Piccarreto (157) and Cash Carson (215) both picked up championship round wins, Piccarreto by decision and Carson by pin.

Greeley Central also had a pair of champions, Daniel Romero (106) and Noah Garcia-Salazar (150). Romero won his final match by pinfall and Garcia-Salazar by technical fall.

Fort Lupton sixth, Greeley West 14th at Rodriguez Tournament of Champions, in Aurora:

The Bluedevils racked up 214.5 team points, good for a sixth place finish. They were led by a second-place finish from 132-pounder Josiah Gonzales. Isaiah Rodriguez (106) took home a third-place finish and Christopher Galicia (165) finished fourth.

Greeley West was paced by a pair of second-place finishes on their way to 140 team points. Julien Chavez (126) and Marcelo Marquez (150) both brought home silver.

Weld Central paces trio of Weld Schools at Wiggins Invitational, in Wiggins:

Weld Central finished fourth with 128.5 team points, ahead of sixth-place Greeley West (91) and 10th-place University (69.5).

William Ellerman (157) brought home the lone gold medal, tech falling his championship round opponent 20-0. Gavin Kitzman (138), Cristiano Ontiveros (150), Wyatt Gerkin (175), Bryen Stalcup (190) all finished second for the Rebels.

The Spartans team in attendance were led by a trio of third-place finishes. Trevor Mills (120), Alex Morales (165) and Max Castellanos (190) all brought home bronze.

The Bulldogs were led by a second-place finish by 285-pounder Jairo Tovanche. Josh Martinez (190) took home a fourth-place finish.
