A woman was killed in San Ysidro early Sunday morning when a man apparently accidentally drove over her as she slept by a retaining wall.
According to OnScene.Media, the man had been in Tijuana all night and had returned to his parked car in San Ysidro at the 600 block of E. San Ysidro Blvd. after he crossed back into the United States at around 5:47 a.m. Sunday.
East San Ysidro BoulevardInstead of putting the car into reverse, the driver accidentally drove the car forward and over a retaining wall, where the car got stuck. He then called a tow truck to help him get the car free.
After the tow truck arrived, its driver discovered that a woman was beneath the front of the man’s car and called 911. First responders performed lifesaving measures for several minutes before pronouncing her dead at the scene.
It appears that the woman may have been sleeping next to the retaining wall when the car drove over her.
The driver of the car was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The San Diego Police Department is investigating the incident.
