Joint air defense exercises began on Sunday in western andnorthern regions, including the Fordow facility (central Iran) and Khondab(western Iran), home to the Arak heavy water reactor.
The maneuver involved missile, radar, electronic warfare,and information control units, as well as air defense.
These military activities, involving both the Iranian Armyand the Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), are set to continue until mid-March.
These military activities come as tensions over Iran’snuclear program escalate ahead of US President Donald Trump’s return to theWhite House on January 20. Tensions over Iran’s nuclear program have heightenedsince the US unilaterally withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal during Trump’sfirst term.
Iran is scheduled to hold talks with France, Germany, andthe UK on January 13 in Geneva, following earlier discussions hosted bySwitzerland in late November.
Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, emphasized thatTehran seeks to "build greater trust in the peaceful nature of Iran’snuclear program" in exchange for sanctions relief.
