Pomona Fairplex has opened as an evacuation site for LA County residents displaced by fires.

LA County Supervisor Hilda Solis announced the opening of the new evacuation site in collaboration with the Red Cross.

“We are prepared to continue receiving residents and animals needing a place to stay,” Solis said in a news release.

Wildfires have been tearing through cities and communities in LA County this week, fanned by strong Santa Ana winds and forcing thousands to flee. They’ve left in their wake a path of destruction and ash. The Eaton fire in the San Gabriel Valley and the Palisades fire in Malibu and Pacific Palisades have destroyed thousands of homes since they ignited Tuesday, Jan. 7.

Residents in need can go to 1101 W. McKinley Ave., Pomona for supplies including emergency kits, water, food and shelter.

The site is open to anyone in Los Angeles County in need as a result of the fires.

The Fairplex is also equipped for pets and large animals, the release states.
