Matthew McConaughey is a Texas homer. The movie star always shows up loud and proud for his Longhorns whenever they’re playing in a big football game, which has been a lot over the past several years.
But the 55-year-old is an actor, too. So, of course, he loves a great performance, even if it’s by the team that Texas is facing that day or night. In this case though, before Friday night’s College Football Playoff semifinal against Ohio State, McConaughey showed his appreciation for the Buckeyes marching band, not the Buckeyes players themselves.
Following the Ohio State band’s pregame performance, with the kickoff of the showdown in Arlington, Texas, just minutes away, Texas’s No. 1 celebrity superfan took the time to shake hands or give a pat to the Buckeyes band members passing by along the sidelines.
For McConaughey, it was a chance to show he can be just a regular person and maybe step out of his celebrity shell. For the OSU band members, it was a chance of a lifetime, to have an “A-list” actor who’s used to giving special performances himself showing his support for the performance of a college football team’s band.
Those band members’ nights were already made, and the game hadn’t even started yet.
