One of the top relievers is going off the market, signing with the Orioles.
Andrew Kittredge hadn’t been connected to the Cubs, but movement in the market is nevertheless notable:

A $10 million guarantee to Kittredge is more than I had in my mental calculator (it is only a touch less than Aroldis Chapman got from the Red Sox), and is probably not the direction I’d have wanted the Cubs to go anyway. Wonder what it means for guys like Jeff Hoffman, Kirby Yates, Jose Leclerc, David Robertson, Carlos Estevez, Tommy Kahnle, etc.
Kittredge, 35 in March, had a 2.80 ERA for the Cardinals this year over 70.2 innings, with a 3.96 FIP, 23.3% K, and 7.0% BB. He manages contact well and doesn’t walk guys, though he doesn’t quite get the strikeouts he used to in his best days with the Rays. I’m not saying I wouldn’t want the guy in my bullpen, but it just seems like a steep price. Sure hope the Cubs are ready to do what is necessary to get one of those late-inning guys.
