India National Cricket Team batter Virat Kohli has been under the pump for his poor outings in Test cricket. The right-hander's struggle against those balls outside off was exposed by the Australia National Cricket Team pacers during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25.
Following his failures, there were reports that Kohli would be playing county cricket to prepare himself for the Test series against England. Many lauded the batter for his commitment as they said that the batter is keen to give his best for the team in the longest format.

Aakash Chopra further urged Kohli and Rohit Sharma to play in the Ranji Trophy, saying that they didn't play in the Duleep Trophy and now, when they have a choice, they should play this time. He added:
"The last time when there was a chance to play first-class cricket, both said - 'We don't need to.' That was the Duleep Trophy which was organized to prepare you for the long Test season. I don't think they would be given the choice now. They might still have the choice but I don't think they will choose to skip it now."
