Anthonie Knapp exits Notre Dame-Penn State game with leg injury ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

Anthonie Knapp has been removed from Notre Dame’s semifinal matchup against Penn State after he appeared to suffer a lower leg injury in the first half on Thursday night.

Knapp, a true freshman, has been Notre Dame’s starting left tackle all season. He stepped in for the injured Charles Jagusah back in fall camp and was a big part of why Notre Dame had one of the best rushing offenses in the country this season.

Per ESPN’s broadcast, Knapp is struggling to put any weight on his injured ankle as he attempts to get back into the game. He did not return to the field on Notre Dame’s ensuing drive.

Knapp earned a run blocking grade of 69.0 through 829 snaps this season, according to Pro Football Focus. He played the second-most snaps of any Notre Dame offensive lineman entering Thursday night’s game vs. the Nittany Lions.

If Knapp can’t return, it would be a big blow for the Fighting Irish. Knapp was replaced by Tosh Baker, who is a reserve tackle for Notre Dame. Baker played only 64 snaps through Notre Dame’s first 14 games, per PFF.

Notre Dame closed as a 1-point underdog against Penn State, per most sportsbooks.
