"I think that would be selfish. I've done the film and I've learned a lot from the film," she exclusively told Parade at the National Board of Review Gala in New York City on Tuesday, Jan. 7, adding that "it opens the door for newer faces" to "do [it] on stage."
While Erivo says she won't be taking her Elphaba to the stage, that doesn't mean she's not interested in seeing who fills her shoes when the time comes.
Erivo made her Broadway debut in 2015 in The Color Purple, where she reprised her role as Celie Harris opposite Jennifer Hudson as Shug Avey and Danielle Brooks as Sofia. (Erivo previously starred in the London production in 2013.)
"I knew I wanted to be an actress [as a kid]," she told Elle of her career aspirations in November last year. "I knew I wanted to be a singer. I knew I wanted to be successful. Those are the things that were very clear to me."
