Instant Bears Player Grades: Caleb Slays the Packers at Lambeau ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

It was ugly, and the Bears almost found a new embarrassing way to blow it, but Caleb Williams led a game-winning drive to beat the Green Bay Packers at Lambeau Field for the first time since 2015.

Let’s hand out some instant grades.

Offense

QB Caleb Williams | B+

Caleb Williams became the first Bears quarterback to beat the Packers since 2018 and the first to beat them at Lambeau Field since Jay Cutler in 2015. There was so much bad this season, but ending it with a Williams game-winning drive at Lambeau Field is a nice consolation prize. Williams completed 21-of-29 passes for 148 yards, a touchdown, no interceptions, and a 95.2 passer rating.

RB D’Andre Swift | C

D’Andre Swift rushed for 65 yards on 20 carries, his best performance in weeks. These aren’t season grades, so Swift gets a middling grade for a mediocre performance.

WR DJ Moore | C

Moore caught a touchdown and did almost everything asked of him, but he coughed up the football down the stretch and nearly handed the Packers the game, so he got penalized.

WR Rome Odunze | D

Odunze caught two passes for 18 yards, and while one of his catches was a clutch sideline toe-tapper that helped the Bears extend their game-winning drive, it was a largely disappointing day for the rookie wide receiver.

WR Keenan Allen | D

Interceptions by wide receivers can’t happen. The play was stupid and shouldn’t have happened, but if you’re going to do it, you can’t throw an interception.

TE Cole Kmet | D

Kmet had two targets today, two more than he had last week. He had three yards, which is three more than he had last week.

Offensive Line | D

What’s left to say about this group?

Defense

Defensive Line | D

The front seven allowed the Packers to rush for 176 yards and two touchdowns—another disappointing performance from this group. We’re going to have to have a discussion about the demise of Montez Sweat in the near future.

Linebackers | D

See above.

Secondary | C-

Jaylon Johnson continues to be excellent, and Tyrique Stevenson continues to stink.

Special Teams

K Cairo Santos | A

Redemption!

P Tory Taylor | C

It was a very underwhelming day for the rookie punter.

Coaching

Thomas Brown | D

The Thomas Brown era comes to an end with another lackluster offensive performance, an undying love for the bubble screen, and a head-scratching decision on the second-half two-point conversion attempt. It’s like Matt Eberflus never left.
