With 16 of 18 non-playoff teams in contention, the 2025 MLB Draft lottery set the stage for plenty of drama. The top six picks of the draft were decided through the weighted lottery, while the following selections for non-playoff teams were assigned in reverse order of their regular season record. Teams that made the postseason were slotted based on their round of elimination, starting with the Wild Card Game participants and progressing through the Division Series, League Championship Series, and ultimately the World Series runner-up.

The Mets, Yankees, and Dodgers saw their first-round picks drop 10 spots because they each exceeded the second surcharge threshold of the competitive balance tax by more than $40 million.
