Finally, the last BN Bears Bullets of the 2024 calendar year. Thanks for reading. I’ll try to keep it short and sweet today so you can get on with the rest of your day.
While the Chicago Bears have given no consideration to sitting rookie quarterback Caleb Williams in the team’s regular-season finale against the Green Bay Packers, New England Patriots Head Coach Jerod Mayo is willing to think about benching Drake Maye in Week 18. The Patriots have more to lose with a win on Sunday, especially since New England can clinch the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft with a loss, But still … there is a part of me that is surprised that the Bears wouldn’t even consider it. On the other hand, what has this team done to deserve a day off? There is still work to be done and development to be made. Don’t get me wrong. I understand why there is a segment of this fan base that insists on sitting Caleb Williams and the rest of the regulars in Week 18. However, I am not vibing with the precedent it could set. Then again, it’ll be a new coach in charge next year so that precedent might not even matter. There is still time to vote in our poll:Should Caleb Williams play in Week 18?
— Bleacher Nation Bears (@BN_Bears) December 30, 2024 I appreciate Bears Interim Head Coach Thomas Brown pointing the finger inward in discussing why the team’s offense has sputtered:“The offense was not good enough, which starts with me. As far as the game plan that I had, having those guys ready to go, we had plenty of opportunities to win it, had an unfortunate call that took away one of the touchdowns, but still had plenty of chances to take at-bats, and that’s extremely frustrating and disappointing.”
Taking accountability isn’t something this team has done much of this year. And while this isn’t a “better late than never” situation, it is a good look for Brown and I think this will help him get some interviews for future OC gigs down the line. More from the Bears head coach here: The Chicago Tribune reports Bears offensive lineman Nate Davis listed his Highland Park home for $5 million. If Davis would have put in as much work with the Bears as he did remodeling his suburban digs, he would probably still be starting for an offensive line that is in shambles. I am as surprised as you are to read that the TNF finale between the Bears and Seahawks averaged more than 11.04 million viewers. (Awful Announcing) The Detroit Lions put up 40 points on the San Francisco 49ers in the Monday Night Football season finale. Ben Johnson’s résumé continues to grow — and just in time for him to be viewed by one NFL insider as a “best bet” to land the Bears gig. I saw some groveling over why the Lions offensive coordinator would waste cool plays on a Week 17 game against a non-playoff team. But the way I see it, why wouldn’t you give your future playoff opponents something else to think about during their prep work? Anyway, this was cool:THE TRICKY @LIONS!
