Flight delays are certainly inconvenient, but there may be a perk to having a delayed flight at DIA during the holidays this year. This year the first that the airport has ever had a holiday pop-up bar — it’s decorated with all kinds of holiday spirit and the menu features festive drink options and seasonal bites. It's called Santa's Layover Lounge, and it can be found in Concourse B at Lounge 5280 in the mezzanine.

Busy holiday travel not over yet

The Denver airport is one of the biggest and busiest in the country, and it's extra busy during the holiday season. Some of the busiest days of the season for DIA have yet to come.

The airport reported that it expects to see about 811,000 passengers from Dec. 19 to Dec. 29, a 7.95% jump from the number of passengers seen in 2023. Dec. 30 is expected to be one of the busiest days of the year.

6 a.m. to noon 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Those traveling out of DIA for the holidays are encouraged to arrive at the airport at least 2 hours early to ensure plenty of time to get through security and to their flight's gate.

If you have not traveled through DIA recently, there are some changes to be aware of including new restaurants, new security checkpoints and updated technology that will impact anyone traveling in and out of Denver. See FOX31’s guide to holiday travel at DIA for everything you need to know.
