Scottie Scheffler has pulled out of the first PGA Tour event of 2025 after sustaining a bizarre injury while cooking Christmas dinner.

The world no.1 was forced to undergo surgery on his hand which has now ruled him out for three to four weeks.

Scheffler will play no part in the event, which starts on January 2Getty

This means that Scheffler won’t be able to play The Sentry in Hawaii which begins on January 2.

The PGA Tour said: “World number one and 2024 FedEx Cup Champion Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from the PGA Tour’s 2025 season-opening tournament, The Sentry, which will take place next week, January 2-5 at The Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii.”

Scheffler, who won seven PGA Tour titles last year, hopes to be back in action at The American Express tournament on January 16.

But for now, he will be out of action after suffering a very strange injury which occurred when making Christmas Dinner.

His manager, Blake Smith revealed: “On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound to the palm of his right hand from a broken glass.

“Small glass fragments remained in the palm which required surgery.

“He has been told that he should be back to 100 per cent in three to four weeks.

“Unfortunately, he will have to withdraw from The Sentry. His next scheduled tournament is The American Express.”

So it seems Christmas in the Scheffler household has led to a spell off of the course for the time being.

He will be hoping to return to action soon into 2025 and continue the incredible form that he built in 2024.

Scheffler won an Olympic gold medal and seven PGA tour titles before being named the PGA Tour’s Player of the Year for the third straight season.

He became the first player ever to win the Players, the Masters and the Tour Championship in one season too.

It wasn’t all success for the American in 2024 though, as he was arrested at the PGA Championship in May.

Scheffler was detained by police on his way into Valhalla Golf Club for the tournament for allegedly disobeying orders and assaulting an officer with his vehicle.

Two weeks after the ordeal those charges were dropped and footage proved them to be exaggerated.

He still played his round of golf at Valhalla after his arrest and being held in a cell, in what was an incredible show of mental strength.

However, as good as his mental strength is, he won’t be able to play through his second major issue of the year.

His hand injury will prevent him from playing for now, and he’s going to have to fight to be fit for upcoming tournaments.

Scheffler is not the only golfer to have suffered misfortune in recent days with Norway’s Viktor Hovland taking to his official Instagram account to post an X-ray which appeared to show his little toe pointing at an alarming angle.

The image was accompanied by the message: “Bed frame 1-0 me.”

Responding to Hovland’s message, 2021 Open winner Collin Morikawa said: “I’m wrapping myself in some bubble wrap on the way to Hawaii.”
