The city of Greeley’s Homeless Solutions Department hosted a holiday event at the LINC Library last Friday to spread some holiday cheer to families in need.
The event was attended by nearly 50 families, including 29 children, in the city’s Rapid Rehousing program. The rehousing program was launched in June under the Homeless Solutions Department. It works to provide help in finding a safe place to live for people experiencing homelessness.
The program has provided such aid to 88 people across 49 households, helping them move into homes and start fresh.
The city of Greeley partnered with Santa Cops, a Greeley nonprofit, to create positive holiday memories for families who are working toward stable housing.
“Our goal is to create a community where everyone has a place to call home,” Greeley Assistant City Manager Juliana Kitten said in a news release. “This event shows the power of working together. We’re so thankful to Santa Cops for helping bring joy to families during this special time of year. It’s a reminder that no one is alone in their journey to stable housing.”

(Courtesy/City of Greeley)Santa Cops is a volunteer-based organization established in 1986 by the late Greeley police officer Dave Volpe to promote holiday cheer for all during the season. The organization is a partnership between several police departments including Greeley, Evans and the University of Northern Colorado, as well as the Weld County Probation Department and District 6 schools.
The organization provides toys to children in need from low-income families during the holiday season, while improving relations between police and the communities they serve. Since its establishment, Santa Cops has provided more than 5,000 gifts that are personally delivered by officers to Greeley and Evans families each year.
Though the referral period for 2024 is closed, people can still help by making donations to Santa Cops. Donations go directly to gifts for children as well as operational expenses.
Santa Cops accepts toy donations as well as monetary donations, and there are many other ways to help listed on their website at greeleypd.com/santa-cops. Residents can also get involved with the Homeless Solutions Department by going to greeleygov.com/services/housing-and-homeless-solutions/homeless-solutions or calling 970-351-5005.
