The Orange County girls basketball rankings for this week.

Notable this week: Mater Dei strengthened its hold on the No. 1 spot with a third-place finish at the Nike Tournament of Champions in Arizona. The Monarchs’ only loss was against eventual champion Archbishop Mitty of San Jose. … Santa Margarita climbed one spot to No. 7 as it prepares for a test at the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic this week in San Diego. … Orange Lutheran rose one spot to No. 10 after defeating Phoenix Country Day of Arizona at the Nike TOC.

GIRLS BASKETBALL TOP 25

1. Mater Dei (12-2): The Monarchs open the West Coast Jamboree against Oakland Tech and standout junior forwards Jhai Johnson and Terri’A Russell on Friday in the San Francisco Bay Area.

2. Sage Hill (8-6): The Lightning will be working on “how to finish games” after posting a 1-3 record at the Nike Tournament of Champions, coach Kerwin Walters said.

3. Fairmont Prep (8-4): The Huskies open the West Coast Jamboree against Salesian of Richmond on Friday.

4. Villa Park (10-3): The Spartans are playing in the Savanna tournament this week after going 1-3 at the Nike TOC.

5. San Clemente (8-4): The Tritons carry a four-game winning streak into their Surf City Holiday Classic opener against Fountain Valley on Thursday.

6. Crean Lutheran (10-2): The Saints open the Surf City Holiday Classic against Yorba Linda on Thursday.

7. Santa Margarita (11-3): The Eagles face San Diego power Cathedral Catholic (6-0) at the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic on Thursday.

8. JSerra (6-7): The Lions went 0-4 at the Nike Tournament of Champions as their losing streak hit six games. They’ll look to bounce back this week at the SoCal Holiday Prep Classic.

9. El Dorado (8-4): Delaney Shiring scored a game-high 17 points in a 58-31 win against Sonora at the Challenge for CHOC showcase on Saturday. El Dorado plays in the Sunny Hills tournament this week.
