First Night is getting bigger as Fullerton plans celebration to ring in 2025 ...Middle East

News by : (The Orange County Register) -

As the clock ticks closer to midnight on New Year’s Eve, revelers who turn out for Fullerton’s First Night celebration will be able to frolic in a winter wonderland of snow, catch views of the city riding a Ferris wheel, eat to their heart’s content, enjoy music and ring in 2025 with fireworks over the downtown.

First Night returned to Fullerton in 2023 after taking a three-year hiatus through the pandemic. The celebration to close out 2024 is taking place on a larger scale than last year, with more attractions added and more live music, said Deputy City Manager Daisy Perez, who is also the parks  and recreation director.

Expected to be among the most popular offerings will be Snow Lane, which is making its First Night debut, Perez said.

Real snow will be piled near the intersection of Wilshire and Pomona avenues, and youngsters can ride the slope with sleighs that will be available at the event.

“We started planning a lot earlier this year, which allowed us to get better pricing on things like fireworks and the attractions,” Perez said. “So, we were able to lock in those at a lower rate. It allowed us to stretch our dollars further and add additional features.”

Harbor Boulevard and some intersecting streets will be closed to vehicles, allowing revelers to stroll freely through downtown.

And as always, a pyrotechnic display and fireworks extravaganza will ring in the new year at midnight.

Admission is free, but some activities and rides require a ticket. For the first time, pre-sale ride tickets are available for purchase at the Fullerton Community Center at a discounted price.

Pre-sale pricing offers discounted bundle options for bigger savings and will let attendees to skip the lines at the celebration, officials said.

Ticket bundles will only be available for pre-sale, and all tickets sold at First Night Fullerton will be $1 each. Cash will not be accepted at the event.

Perez said the city also lowered prices for activities this year. “The Ferris Wheel is only six tickets,” she said, “where last year the big attraction was 10.”

Entertainment has been expanded to include a total of five bands appearing on three stages, up from last year when three bands performed.

There will also be community events, such as food-eating contests on the plaza stage.

“First Night is one of Fullerton’s most cherished traditions, bringing together families, friends, and neighbors to celebrate the new year in the heart of our historic downtown,” Councilmember Nicholas Dunlap said. “With new attractions like the Ferris wheel and snow lane, this year promises to be more magical than ever. We can’t wait to ring in 2025 with our incredible community.”

Multiple food trucks will provide ample food options for sale, Perez said, and alcohol being served for the first time.

Rast Rita, a mobile margarita bar, will be set up on Harbor Boulevard, and the Fullerton Museum is hosting a beer garden.

This New Year’s Eve marks the city’s 31st First Night celebration.
