NFL Injury Designations: A Guide

Understanding the different injury designations used in the NFL can be crucial for fantasy football players, bettors, and casual fans alike. While things have changed over the past few years (we no longer have the near-useless “probable” tag), the designations are mostly the same as they’ve ever been as we get closer to game time each week.

Here’s a breakdown of the most common terms you’ll encounter:

ActiveMeaning: The player is healthy and available to play.

InactiveMeaning: The player will not play in the game due to injury, illness, or other reasons.

QuestionableMeaning: The player’s status for the game is uncertain, and a final decision will be made closer to game time.

DoubtfulMeaning: The player is unlikely to play, but there’s still a small chance.

OutMeaning: The player will definitely not play in the game.

Did Not Practice (DNP)Meaning: The player did not participate in practice on a given day due to injury, illness, or other reasons.

LimitedMeaning: The player participated in practice but was limited in some way, such as only doing drills or being held out of contact.

FullMeaning: The player participated in full practice without any limitations.

Note: While these are the most common designations, teams may sometimes use additional terms or provide more specific details about a player’s injury. It’s always a good idea to check the latest injury reports for the most accurate information.

By understanding these injury designations, you can make more informed decisions about your fantasy football lineups, bets, and even whether to watch a particular game.
