Compensation For the Justin Fields Trade Has Officially Been Decided ...Middle East

You can lock in an extra sixth-round pick for the Chicago Bears in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Bill Zimmerman explains how the trade the Bears made in the offseason that sent former starting quarterback Justin Fields to the Pittsburgh Steelers will net Chicago’s football team a sixth-round pick:

With Fields missing this week's game, it closes the book on the conditions for the 4th round pick for the Chicago Bears.Justin Fields cannot play in at least 51% of the snaps for the Steelers this year. The Bears compensation for the Fields trade will be a 6th round pick. t.co/70SLIk3huo

On the one hand, it is a bummer that Justin Fields will not play enough snaps for the pick to turn into a fourth-rounder. The Bears could use all the draft capital they can get, and adding a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft would have been a welcome sight. But on the other hand, getting a sixth-round pick is better than getting nothing in return for moving on from Fields. In this economy, I am grateful to have something over nothing.

And yet, there is a part of me that is disappointed that the Bears won’t get a fourth-round pick as part of the Justin Fields deal. Fields began the year as the starter in Pittsburgh because of an injury to Russell Wilson. For what it’s worth, Fields played admirably as a starter. The Ohio State product completed 66.3 percent of his passes, threw for 1,106 yards, threw for five touchdowns (against just one interception), and posted a 93.9 passer rating. Fields added another 231 rushing yards and five ground scores. Perhaps that production will lead to him getting another shot at a starting job elsewhere in 2025. Fields will be a free agent at season’s end.

Now that we are done with the Justin Fields trade, we can move on to looking at what picks the Bears have coming their way in 2025.

Chicago Bears 2025 NFL Draft picks after Justin Fields trade

Now that we’ve settled that, this is what the Bears’ haul of picks for the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft looks like (via Tankathon):

Round 1, Pick 9 Round 2, Pick 36 (via Carolina Panthers) Round 2, Pick 40 Round 3, Pick 73 Round 5, Pick 146 Round 6, Pick 202 (via Pittsburgh Steelers) Round 7, Pick 228 (via Cincinnati Bengals) Round 7, Pick 244 (via Minnesota Vikings)

The Bears having eight picks at their disposal going into next year’s draft is a nice starting point. And to think, it would not be a stretch to think that the team could add to this haul. For instance, standing pat at pick No. 9 is fine and dandy — but I am not opposed to hearing out potential offers from teams that would want to move up. The same can be said with how I feel about both of Chicago’s second-round selections.

We have seen several teams slide up in the early parts of Day 2 in the past. I’d like to think I would be OK with Chicago’s front office leveraging those picks to create more volume. Of course, if there is a perfect fit for the Bears who plays a position of need, then I wouldn’t mind seeing the Bears show no hesitation in turning in the draft card.
