A Lake County woman was injured after being struck by a car in Ukiah this week, the Ukiah Police Department reported.
According to the UPD, officers were dispatched to the intersection of East Gobbi Street and South Orchard Avenue around 1:15 p.m. Dec. 16 when it was reported that a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian occurred.
When officers arrived, they reported that California Highway Patrol officers were already on-scene “cordoning off the immediate area and were tending to the pedestrian, who was still in the roadway. The UPD-designated traffic officer assumed the scene and conducted a crash investigation.”
The pedestrian, identified only as a “female from Lake County,” was initially transported to a local area hospital, but was later transported to an out of the area hospital for further medical treatment.” When asked for an age of the victim, UPD Lt. Jason Chapman said she was 65 years old.
The UPD reports that while it is still investigating the cause of the crash, “drugs and alcohol are not an anticipated factor in this crash.”
The UPD also urged “everyone to travel safely and always double check for pedestrians before making any turns or lane changes. This is important during the winter when the roadways are slick, and visibility is poor.”
Personnel from MedStar Ambulance and the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority also responded to the incident, and the UPD thanked the CHP, UVFA and Medstar “for their assistance in this incident.”
When asked for an update on the late October crash in Ukiah on North State Street and Clara Avenue that killed a Ukiah man, Lt. Chapman said the cause of the collision was still under investigation, but that more information may be released next month.
