PATRICK Mahomes is questionable for the Kansas City Chiefs’ upcoming game, but the team is confident in his backup.

If Mahomes cannot play on Saturday, Carson Wentz is in line to start against the Houston Texans.

Mahomes suffered a high-ankle sprain in Week 15 against the Cleveland Browns, forcing him out for the remainder of the game.

Now nursing that injury, his status for Saturday is up in the air.

The Chiefs don’t seem too worried about their quarterback missing a game though, as they are confident in the abilities of Wentz.

According to Travis Kelce, Wentz is “prepped and ready to rock and roll.”

Kelce also said that Wentz is a “pro’s pro,” and that the team is in good hands with him under center.

While Wentz is available to play if needed, it seems that Kelce thinks Mahomes will tough it out.

He referred to him as one of the “toughest guys in the league,” despite his “weak ankles.”

“He’s going to tape it up and be just fine,” Kelce said of Mahomes playing the game.

Whether or not Mahomes plays the game, Wentz confirmed that he will be ready to go.

“I’ve been preparing like I’m going to play every week,” he said.

Wentz was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft and has plenty of experience from his MVP-caliber days with the Philadelphia Eagles.

His brief appearance in the game on Sunday showed promise, and he could help the Chiefs manage a stretch of three games in 11 days if Mahomes needs a day off.

The Chiefs starting quarterback is one of the biggest competitors in the NFL, and will try his best to play this week after lobbying to stay in the game on Sunday.

“I feel like I could have finished the game in different circumstances,” Mahomes said.

His head coach, Andy Reid, was never going to let that happen though, and put Wentz in for the rest of the game.

NFL on Netflix

Netflix will be the global home of the NFL on Christmas Day this year.

The streaming service will show two special holiday games live around the world.

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs kick off the double header against the Pittsburgh Steelers at 1 pm ET.

And they’ll be followed by the Baltimore Ravens at the Houston Texans from 4.30 pm ET.

That game will also feature a halftime show from Beyonce in her home town of Houston, Texas.

Netflix also confirmed their broadcast team for the day, led by Fox NFL commentator Greg Olsen and former Good Morning Football host Kay Adams.

“He wanted to fight about it, but we’ve got good support there behind him with Carson,” Reid said.

Mahomes did acknowledge that it could have been reckless to reenter the game after hurting his ankle.

“You don’t want to go out there and put yourself in harm’s way,” he said.

“It’s football, you’re going to take hits, but you want to be able to protect yourself.”

Mahomes wants to play only if it doesn’t hurt the team around him, and he expects to know by the end of the week.
