President-elect Donald Trump nominated Art Fisher, a real estate broker and businessperson from western North Carolina, as the ambassador to Austria.
In the latest round of nominations, Trump selected ambassadors to five countries, he shared on social media Monday night.
Fisher is the president of Fisher Realty, his family’s real estate firm founded in 1977. The company has offices in Brevard and Sapphire-Lake Toxaway, serving Henderson, Buncombe, Transylvania, and Jackson counties.
“Art has been a staunch supporter of America First Policies, and will make us proud in Austria!” Trump wrote in his announcement.
Fisher is a member of the Trumpettes, a group dedicated to electing Trump.
He has contributed to the campaigns of Republican candidates during the 2024 cycle. Fisher donated $8,300 to the National Republican Senatorial Committee and to the individual Senate candidates of Kari Lake (Arizona), Bernie Moreno (Ohio), Josh Hawley (Missouri), Marsha Blackburn (Tennessee), Tom Cotton (Arkansas), Steve Garvey (California), and Trent Staggs (Utah).
The real estate broker also donated to the Republican National Committee, Republican Victory Fund, and Rep.-elect Brian Jack of Georgia.
Fisher Realty declined to comment to NC Newsline.
Future Business Leaders of America, a student organization, named Fisher as Mr. Future Business Leader of North Carolina one of the top ten Future Business Leaders in America at age 18, according to his profile on Fisher Realty.
Fisher’s profile also said he’s traveled to all seven continents and about 100 countries.
He graduated from the College of Charleston with bachelor’s degrees in business administration and corporate communications.
The real estate broker is a trustee of Brevard College and the Pisgah Health Foundation, board member of United Community Bank, and a Senate appointee to the North Carolina Travel and Tourism Board.
Nominations to become ambassador of the U.S. to a foreign country or international organization must be confirmed by the Senate. Ambassadors fall under the U.S. State Department.
After confirmation, ambassadors serve as the personal representative of the president and the chief representative of the U.S. government to that country or organization, according to the state department.
