The Chicago Bears’ losing streak has now reached eight games after losing to the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football in Week 15.
FINAL: Minnesota Vikings 30, Chicago Bears 12 (ESPN Box Score)
Thoughts on another Bears loss
The Bears’ 2024 season in a nutshell (Part One): A D’Andre Swift touchdown was wiped off the board because offensive lineman Doug Kramer forgot to report as eligible to an official. One play later, rookie left tackle Kiran Amegadjie was called for a holding penalty on a play that lost yards. A series of three consecutive incomplete passes in the red zone featured a drop by Keenan Allen. The Bears settled for a field goal What could have been a 13-7 deficit was quickly turned into a 20-3 deficit because Minnesota scored a TD on the ensuing drive. This Bears team plays a brand of football that makes me feel dumber for watching it every week. The Bears’ 2024 season in a nutshell (Part Two): Even when Tyrique Stevenson does a good thing, it isn’t all that good. Batting the pass down would have given the Bears some slightly better field position. Part of me wants to ding him for not having the awareness to just knock it down. However, I understand that the human element of this play has your instincts telling you to catch the pass. Also, maybe that interception turns into a confidence-building moment for a player who has looked broken in recent weeks. With that being said, I am not opposed to the Bears upgrading at cornerback this offseason (even if that feels like a non-priority for some folks).INSTANT BEARS PLAYER GRADES: Week 15 vs. Minnesota Vikings
This happened last year, too, so I am not sure why it took so long for the Bears to make it happen, but DeMarcus Walker looks great as an interior defensive lineman. Walker didn’t come away with any sacks, but he contributed a tackle-for-loss and four quarterback hits on Monday Night Football. Fellow defensive tackle Chris Williams snagged a sack, tackle-for-loss, and a pair of QB hits, too. It was nice to see the interior of that defensive line put up some resistance in prime time. Perhaps the Bears can use the season’s final games as an opportunity to see if it has worthwhile defensive line depth. Mandatory Credit: Jeffrey Becker-Imagn ImagesBears Week 15 highlights

How did the three Bears perform?
Caleb Williams stats from the Week 15 loss: 18 of 31, 191 passing yards, 1 touchdown, 0 interceptions, 86.9 passer rating. I thought Troy Aikman’s insight and in-game assessments of QB1’s play were good and feel as if it might be worth revisiting on a rewatch. But if I don’t, just know that the Hall of Famer was spot on in discussing how Williams is in the midst of a learning process that takes time to fully develop. Hopefully, the lumps Caleb takes now will benefit him in the long run.
With that being said, this TD pass was nice:

— Chicago Bears (@ChicagoBears) December 17, 2024Cole Kmet had one 14-yard reception. Otherwise, I don’t remember seeing him do much of anything on MNF. It feels like a lost year for Kmet, who put forth a great year immediately after signing a contract last season and was off to a decent start in 2024. Perhaps a clean slate in 2205 will be good for the tight end.
Kiran Amegadjie looked rough. It’s not like I was expecting him to come out and look like Orlando Pace. However, I was hoping for better. Instead, Amegadjie looks like a rookie who spent most of training camp on the PUP list and missed a handful of games in the regular season due to an injury. There is a real trial-by-fire thing happening here with the Yale product, who had some key penalties and whiffed on what would’ve been some key blocks.
WHAT’S NEXT: Sunday, Dec. 22 vs. Detroit Lions, noon CT on FOX
The good news is that the Bears can’t be embarrassed in front of a large national audience next week. That is because the team will be in the Sunday noon slot against the Detroit Lions. But the bad news is that the Lions are good and are coming off a tough loss to the Buffalo Bills. An angry Lions bunch with offensive play caller Ben Johnson looking to build his case to be Chicago’s next head coach.
