This week’s Orange County high school boys basketball rankings.

Notable this week: Los Alamitos, which was impressive in a three-point loss to St. Pius X/St. Matthias, moves up one position in this week’s Top 25. The Griffins  so far look to have more depth and more scoring versatility than Mater Dei. … Servite and Fountain Valley had strong weeks, so both pop into the county rankings.

BOYS BASKETBALL TOP 25

(Records through Sunday, Dec. 15)

1. Santa Margarita 7-1: Eagles advanced to the championship game of the Chris Vontoure Spartan Classic in Concord, lost to undefeated host school De La Salle 61-57 in the tournament final.

2. JSerra 10-2: Lions beat Brentwood 64-53 in the Beverly Hills Tournament championship game, with BJ Davis-Ray scoring 24 points with eight rebounds and James Eyenga scoring 14 with 11 rebounds.

3. Los Alamitos 5-3: Griffins had a big early lead against St. Pius X/St. Matthias, the No. 20 team in the CalHiSports state rankings, and wound up losing by three points as Los Alamitos senior Wes Trevino scored 21 points.

4. Mater Dei 7-2: Monarchs won the San Juan Invitational championship with a 79-44 victory over Capistrano Valley Christian in the tournament championship game in which sophomore Demarcus Henry scored 18 points/ They beat San Juan Hills earlier in the tourney.

5. La Habra 12-1: Highlanders beat Rolling Hills Prep, a team that was in the state Top 25 this season, 62-56.

6. Canyon 7-2: Comanches senior Brandon Benjamin continued his high production in the North Orange County Championships, taking MVP honors after scoring 26 points in a 69-62 win over No. 15 Pacifica Christian in the tournament championship game.

7. Crean Lutheran 3-2: Saints did not play last week. They play in the Jerry Tarkanian Classic in Las Vegas this week.

8. San Clemente 11-3: Tritons beat Beckman and Mission Viejo last week.

9. Marina 9-4: Vikings won the championship of the Scattini Tournament in Salinas with a 57-42 win over host school Palma in the championship game. Marina senior Dylan Gomez was named tournament MVP, Luke Pratali and Barak Simon were all-tournament.

10. Fairmont Prep 6-2: Huskies beat Long Beach Poly, lost to state No. 17 La Mirada and to state No. 21 Damien.
