DENVER (KDVR) — Two juveniles were taken into custody after shots were fired inside a PetSmart in Lakewood on Friday evening, according to Lakewood police.
"I was taking orders in the drive-thru thru and then as I was handing the customer his food, he told me that he heard some shots," said Brandon Wise, an employee at the neighboring Goodtimes. "We stuck our head out the window and there was some commotion going on. One of the young ladies that works here at PetSmart came and ran over and we let her inside."
The store is located at 160 Wadsworth Blvd.
"We found a lot of shell casings. What we're doing right now is we're waiting for our crime lab to respond to process the scene. We do have investigators here. We've interviewed several witnesses," said Paul Osckel, an agent for the Lakewood Police Department.
Video from SkyFOX over the scene showed police vehicles in the parking lot and along the side of the store. A portion of the parking lot in front of the store had been sectioned off with police tape.
Police said handguns were recovered.
There have been no reports of injuries, the Lakewood Police Department said.
"Nobody was hurt, thank goodness," said Osckel. "We know from history on how traumatic this can be. We have offered our victim advocates from our department, they have responded out here to be with the individuals that are involved in this. We are doing our best to offer our resources to them."
Lakewood police said they believe this was an isolated incident.
