Bears center Chad Posthumus, who suffered a brain aneurysm during a training session, has raised significant concern within the sports community. The 33-year-old athlete, recognized as the first player signed to the Sea Bears and their captain, was reported to be in stable condition following the medical emergency . Such incidents highlight the potential health risks athletes face while engaging in rigorous physical activities.

The CEBL team posted on social media that Chad Posthumus suffered the aneurysm during a training session.

“He is currently in stable condition, but will require additional medical care,” the statement reads.

Posthumus, who is from Winnipeg, was the Sea Bears’ first ever signing when the team was formed in 2023. He was also the team's captain for the past two seasons.

The team says they extend their heartfelt thoughts, love and prayers to him and they hope to see him on the mend soon.

Posthumus was the first player on the Sea Bears team. He was also the first captain of the team when they were first founded in 2022.

The six-foot-10 centre from Winnipeg is expected to require additional medical attention, the post adds.

Last season, Posthumus played in 19 of the 20 Sea Bears regular-season contests. He averaged 5.8 points and 3.7 rebounds per game in his second season with the Canadian Elite Basketball League team.

He helped Winnipeg advance to the playoffs for a second straight season, only to lose 84-82 to the Calgary Surge in a play-in game.

The ‘Beast from River East’ has suited up for five different CEBL teams in his five seasons in the league. The six-foot-11 big man has also played for the Saskatchewan Rattlers, Ottawa BlackJacks, Edmonton Stingers and Hamilton Honey Badgers.
