Israeli airstrikes in Baalbek and the Bekaa Valley in eastern Lebanon on Tuesday night killed 40 people and left 53 injured, the Lebanese health ministry said. Israel also bombed the Lebanese capital Beirut overnight. The toll from the east Lebanon strikes includes 11 people killed in the city of Baalbek, nine of them in the Shikan district, a densely-packed Sunni neighbourhood in the Shia-majority city.
