Apple has unveiled its latest iteration of wireless earbuds, the AirPods 4, which feature enhanced noise cancellation capabilities and improved sound quality. This release is indicative of Apple's commitment to refining user experience through innovative auditory solutions. The incorporation of active noise cancellation (ANC) technology allows users to immerse themselves in their audio environment, effectively blocking external distractions and enhancing focus during use. Such features are particularly beneficial in urban settings or during commutes where ambient noise can detract from auditory enjoyment.

Apple has integrated new drivers that deliver a richer sound profile while maintaining clarity across various frequencies. This enhancement not only caters to casual listeners but also appeals to audiophiles who prioritize sound fidelity. The combination of ANC and superior audio performance positions the AirPods 4 as a formidable competitor in the growing market for premium wireless earbuds.

The earbuds will be available in two versions: an entry-level model, known as the AirPods 4, and a higher-end model with noise cancellation, known as the AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC), a first for the standard AirPods line. That higher-end version also includes Transparency Mode to help users hear their environment while walking around, along with Adaptive Audio to reduce some environmental noise. Plus, it has Conversational Awareness to reduce volume when talking to someone in real life automatically.

AirPods 4 and AirPods Max will be available to pre-order starting today, with availability in stores beginning Friday, September 20. New hearing health features will be available this fall for AirPods Pro 2 users in more than 100 countries and regions.

John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering. “And with a revolutionary update to the world’s best-selling headphones, AirPods Pro will deliver groundbreaking new capabilities — including Hearing Test and Hearing Aid features — to help more than a billion people affected by hearing loss.”

Apple's most recent AirPods update was in September 2023, when the second-generation Pro model received a new USB-C charging case and lossless audio support with Vision Pro.
