Edmonton Oilers faced a disappointing defeat against the Florida Panthers, with a final score of 4-1. This loss marks another setback in the Oilers' season, raising concerns among fans and analysts alike. The game showcased the Panthers' dominance on both ends of the ice, as they outplayed and outscored their opponents.

One of the key factors contributing to the Oilers' defeat was their inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities. Despite generating several chances throughout the game, they struggled to convert them into goals. This lack of efficiency in front of the net proved costly and ultimately led to their downfall.

Connor McDavid made a timely pass to Mattias Ekholm, who skated past the defenders and buried the wrister five-hole on Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovksy for the goal.

In Game 1 of the series the Oilers failed to net a goal despite outshooting the Panthers 32-18. On Monday, the roles were somewhat reversed with the Panthers outshooting the Oilers, 22-7 through the first two periods.

Shot attempt after shot attempt, the Panthers struggled to get past Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner. Niko Mikkola, however, found his moment of glory in the second period as he snapped a one-timer in on Skinner’s glove side to tie the game 1-1. The Panthers troubles of finding the back of the net disappeared from that point on.

Rodrigues then made it 3-1 at 12:26. He broke the Oilers’ streak of 34 successful penalty kills when he redirected a pass from Lundell in the low slot.

“I'm not too worried about the point totals or goals,” Rodrigues said. “At the end of the day, we're looking for wins here. That's all I care about."

Warren Foegele after he was given a game misconduct in the first period for a knee-on-knee hit on Eetu Luostarinen.

Oilers defenceman Darnell Nurse saw little ice time after he appeared to injure his hip following a hit by Rodrigues in the first.

The Panthers, meanwhile, lost captain Aleksander Barkov after he was hurt on a penalized high hit by Leon Draisaitl in the third period.

Game 3 is Thursday at Edmonton’s Rogers Place.
