The Kansas City Chiefs have secured their star tight end, Travis Kelce, with a lucrative contract extension worth $34.25 million. This deal solidifies Kelce's commitment to the team and ensures that he will continue to be a key player in their offense for years to come.
Kelce has been a standout performer for the Chiefs since being drafted in 2013, consistently ranking among the top tight ends in the league. His combination of size, speed, and hands make him a matchup nightmare for opposing defenses, and his chemistry with quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been instrumental in the team's success.
NFL Network, making him the highest-paid player at his position.
“It feels good to be in KC. I remember coming here 12 years ago,” Kelce said on social media. “It’s an honor and a pleasure and I can’t wait to get after it these next two years but no better than right now. I’m getting fired up for this year. I just got out on the field with the boys and we’re back at it, baby. Chiefs forever.”
Prior to this extension, he was on a four-year, $57.25 million contract. That AAV of $14.3 million ranked fifth among all active NFL tight ends.
His new deal is more in line with what a player, who has 907 career receptions for 11,328 yards and is still at the top of his game, should receive.
Kelce has 907 receptions for 11,328 yards and 74 touchdowns in 11 NFL seasons. In 22 postseason games, he has an NFL-record 165 catches for 1,903 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Kelce has also become a crossover star, thanks in part to his relationship with pop icon Taylor Swift and his appearances on shows such as "Saturday Night Live." The podcast he hosts with his brother and former Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce has become one of the most popular across several genres, and he will soon host a quiz show on Amazon Prime.
The Chiefs will open the 2024 NFL season on Sept. 5 at Arrowhead Stadium. At FanDuel Sportsbook, Kelce & Co. are the early favorites to win the AFC West (-230) and the AFC title (+370). They have the second-shortest odds to win Super Bowl LIX (+550).
