Premier League : Nottingham Forest 0-2 Manchester City

Sport by : (PRESSBEE) -

On a chilly Saturday afternoon at the City Ground, Nottingham Forest faced off against reigning Premier League champions Manchester City. The match was highly anticipated, with both teams looking to secure vital points in the league standings.

From the opening whistle, Manchester City dominated possession and created numerous scoring opportunities. It was no surprise when they took the lead in the 25th minute through a clinical finish from Raheem Sterling. Despite their best efforts, Nottingham Forest struggled to break down City's solid defense and were unable to find an equalizer.

Nottingham Forest on Sunday evening - and could indeed jump above the Gunners, depending on their result earlier on against Tottenham.

Liverpool having fallen away badly in the past few weeks, it’s now very much just a two-horse race in the final stretch, with City aiming to retain their title yet again. They are in fact in the hunt for the domestic double, given they will face Man United in the FA Cup final, too.

Forest, meanwhile, are dancing dangerously close to the precipice of relegation, having lost two of their last three games to compound their recent blow of receiving a 4-point deduction for breaching financial rules. There's set to be added focus on referee Simon Hooper for this game following Forest's furious response to their controversial defeat at Everton last weekend in a match that saw them have three penalty appeals turned down.

Forest have won just two of their last 15 league games, going back to Dec. 30, a poor record that has been overshadowed by their troubles off the pitch.

They were docked four points last month for breaching the Premier League's profitability and sustainability rules. They have appealed the decision.

Forest also hit out at refereeing standards in the Premier League in an angry statement posted on social media platform X following their loss to Everton last Sunday - which has led to the FA launching an investigation into the club.

Overall, it was a commanding performance from Manchester City that showcased their title credentials and kept them firmly in the race for Premier League glory.
