On a sunny Saturday afternoon, Doncaster Rovers secured their spot in the play-offs with a convincing 4-1 victory over Colchester United. The match started off with both teams showing great determination and skill, but it was Rovers who took the lead early on with a well-executed goal. Colchester fought back valiantly, but Rovers' defense held strong and prevented any equalizers.

From the opening whistle, it was clear that Doncaster Rovers meant business. They dominated possession and created numerous scoring opportunities, eventually breaking through with a goal in the 23rd minute. Colchester United fought valiantly to equalize, but their efforts were thwarted by a well-organized Doncaster defense.

Grant McCann made two changes from the side that started the win over Barrow four days earlier as Anderson and Biggins returned to the XI.

The hosts made a strong start to the game and were in Rovers’ faces from the opening whistle.

And they took a ninth minute lead as Rovers struggled to clear their lines. Tom Hopper got in behind the defence and sent a low ball across the box which Fevrier met at the far post and fired home.

The response from Rovers was superb however and by 14 minutes they were level. Jamie Sterry sent Molyneux away with a short free kick and the wide man cut inside before lashing a low effort that found the far bottom corner from 25 yards.

Colchester United started brightly, looking to make their mark on the game early. Jayden Fevrier did just that with less than ten minutes on the clock after some good play on the opposite flank.

Ellis Iandolo and John Akinde combined, then spotting the run of Tom Hopper in the channel – Hopper’s cross missed Akinde in the middle but fell kindly for Fevrier to knock in at the back post.

But the U’s wouldn’t hold the lead for long. Iandolo was carded for a soft challenge on Molyneux near the touchline, and a short free kick allowed the Doncaster man to run towards goal and shoot into the bottom corner. 1-1 after fourteen minutes.

The result prevented Colchester securing their survival, ensuring they go into the final fixtures three points ahead of Sutton and now only four better on goal difference.
