American Idol' alum Mandisa dies at 47

The music industry is mourning the loss of one of its brightest stars as former "American Idol" contestant Mandisa has passed away at the age of 47. Known for her powerful vocals and infectious personality, Mandisa captured the hearts of millions with her performances on the hit reality show.

After her time on "American Idol," Mandisa went on to release several successful albums and tour around the world, spreading joy and inspiration wherever she went. Her music touched the lives of countless fans, who were drawn to her message of hope and faith.

Nashville, Tennessee, on Thursday. The representative said the cause of Mandisa's death was not yet known.

Mandisa, whose full name was Mandisa Lynn Hundley, was born near Sacramento, California, and grew up singing in church. She gained stardom after finishing ninth on "American Idol" in 2006.

She advanced to the top nine contestants before being eliminated. During her run, she sang hits like “I’m Every Woman,” “I Don’t Hurt Anymore,” “Don’t You Worry ‘Bout a Thing,” “Any Man of Mine,” “Shackles (Praise You)” and more.

Mandisa, said: “I am so incredibly saddened to hear about the loss of my friend Mandisa. I will always cherish the memories of times we spent together hosting award shows, going on tour, and most of all helping her tell her story in the songwriting room.”

"I've learned firsthand that talking about it helps it lose some of its power," she continued, adding that she hopes the conversations her book sparks can "lead to healing."

In a statement posted to social media, David Pierce, the chief media officer of K-Love, a Christian radio network, wrote, "Mandisa struggled, and she was vulnerable enough to share that with us, which helped us talk about our own struggles. Mandisa's struggles are over, she is with the God she sang about now."
