MORGANTOWN, W.Va (WDTV) – In a press conference this morning, University football head coach John Kelley has announced his retirement. Kelley coached the team for 37 years, accumulating a record of 254 wins and 157 losses. Kelley led the Hawks to 23 playoff appearances, including a state Class AAA runner-up in 1994. He also coached 3 perfect 10-0 seasons, in 1999, 2017, and 2021. He is one of the most decorated coaches in West Virginia high school history, having received multiple Coach of the Year awards from the Big 10 Conference, along with the NCAC, TRAC, and OVAC conferences.
