Chelsea win 3-2 over Leeds to reach FA Cup quarters

Sport by : (PRESSBEE) -

In a thrilling match that had fans on the edge of their seats, Chelsea emerged victorious with a 3-2 win over Leeds United to advance to the FA Cup quarterfinals. The game was a true test of skill and determination, with both teams giving it their all on the pitch.

Chelsea started strong, taking an early lead with goals from Mason Mount and Hakim Ziyech. However, Leeds fought back valiantly, equalizing the score twice through goals from Patrick Bamford and Raphinha. It wasn't until the dying minutes of the game that Chelsea secured their victory, with Kai Havertz scoring the winning goal in dramatic fashion.

The London side, struggling in mid-table in the Premier League, lost to Liverpool in the final of the Carabao Cup at Wembley on Sunday and the FA Cup is their last realistic chance of silverware.

Chelsea were scheduled to face Arsenal at Emirates Stadium on March 16 in the Premier League’s gameweek 29 but their result secured their progression to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, which will be played across the weekend of March 16-17.

Conor Gallagher’s late second-half strike sealed a place in the next round for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, where they will play Leicester City.

Chelsea looked capable of grabbing control of the game, but it was Leeds who came out strongest after the break and took the lead just before the hour mark with another goal from Joseph.

Ben Chilwell and Cole Palmer came off the bench. It was Gallagher who provided the winning momeny in the 90th minute with a perfect touch and turn from an Enzo Fernandez pass before he found the net.

Time to switch gears and renew our focus as Leeds United roll into town for an FA Cup fifth round match at Stamford Bridge. This is an iconic matchup in this competition that hasn’t been since the famous final in 1970, so there will be plenty of attention and emotion in this one — even beyond our most immediate concerns.

Mauricio Pochettino makes several changes including potentially a formation tweak (as per the official lineup tweet), plus a return for Robert Sánchez between the sticks. Tons of youth on the bench, including some fresh faces.

Plenty of rotation from the visitors as well, though Ethan Ampadu, as usual, starts.
