Tornado watch issued in western Ohio

The ominous warning of a tornado watch issued in Western Ohio sends shivers down the spines of residents, as they brace themselves for the potential devastation that could be unleashed by Mother Nature. The dark clouds looming overhead serve as a stark reminder of the power and unpredictability of these natural disasters.

As families huddle together in their homes, listening to the howling winds and pounding rain outside, they are filled with a sense of fear and uncertainty. The sound of sirens blaring in the distance only adds to the tension, as everyone anxiously waits for updates on the storm's path and intensity.

The NWS amended its forecast for Franklin County, saying there's an 80% chance storms should reach the Columbus area by 1 a.m. Wednesday. Earlier forecasts anticipated storms would begin by 10-11 p.m. Some of the storms could be severe.

Expect low temperatures around 59 and southwest winds between 15 to 18 mph and gusts as high as 30 mph.

The strong cold front will also bring thunderstorms and rapidly plunging temperatures, as well as the potential for snow showers into Wednesday morning. Wind chills will dip into the single digits overnight, with temperatures feeling some 70 degrees colder than Tuesday’s summer-like weather.

Though February tornadoes are rare in Illinois, the last ones touched down just one year ago. Prior to that, February tornadoes were recorded in 2017 — during another uncommonly warm month — and in 2006.
