The Duke 72-71 Clemson basketball game was a thrilling display of skill, determination, and sportsmanship. Both teams fought tooth and nail for the victory, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats until the final buzzer.
From the opening tip-off, it was clear that this would be a closely contested match. The players showcased their exceptional athleticism and basketball IQ throughout the game. Duke's star player, known for his incredible shooting ability, displayed his skills by sinking multiple three-pointers from all angles. Clemson's defense was equally impressive, with their players constantly challenging shots and disrupting Duke's offensive rhythm.
The 12th-ranked Blue Devils welcomed Clemson to Durham Saturday afternoon. The whiplash competition left its outcome up in the air until the very end. But Duke pulled through 72-71.
With 2:19 on the clock, Clemson had regained a four-point lead and Clemson center PJ Hall was singing along to the Miley Cyrus song blasting in Cameron Indoor.
Duke points got all of Cameron Indoor on its feet, as Jared McCain pushed the ball away from the Tigers and turned a fast-break into a layup.
Freshman guard Jared McCain kept making plays on both ends in the final two minutes and Tyrese Proctor made the play to get Duke (15-4, 6-2 ACC) over the hump against the Tigers (13-6, 3-5).
“I’m just really proud of our guys,” Duke coach Jon Scheyer said. “Their will, their competitive spirit.”
Blue Devils. McCain had a game-high 21 points, including 11 points in the final 12 minutes, and three steals in the final three minutes. Clemson didn’t make a shot in the final three minutes.
Duke coach Jon Scheyer said he was proud of his team for the way it finished the game. Proctor (18 points) extended a four-game hot streak and freshman Jared McCain (21 points) showcased his full potential in the win, he said. Both players executed after Kyle Filipowski (2-for-8), who'd struggled throughout the contest, picked up his fifth foul late.
The officiating? Scheyer said it was a physical game for both teams.
Fortunately the Tigers bailed them out at literally the last possible second. So it is a win and that’s good, but it’s not like the Blue Devils won because of incredible guts.
Ultimately, they won because Clemson failed on the last play. That’s not ideal, but a win is a win and now Duke prepares to play at Virginia Tech on Monday night. Cassell has been a tough place for Duke for some time now and the Hokies are coming off of a solid win over Georgia Tech.
