On December 7th, 2019, Liverpool Football Club showcased their dominance in the Premier League with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Bournemouth. This triumph not only solidified their position at the top of the league table but also highlighted their exceptional form and determination to claim the coveted title.
From the opening whistle, Liverpool displayed their attacking prowess and relentless pressure on Bournemouth's defense. The first goal came in just the seventh minute when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain unleashed a powerful strike from outside the box, leaving no chance for Bournemouth's goalkeeper. This early breakthrough set the tone for what was to come.
Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez struck a brace apiece as Liverpool moved five points clear at the top of the Premier League table with a 4-0 victory at Bournemouth.
The visitors were without the creative forces of Mo Salah (international duty) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (injury) and it initially showed in a turgid first 45 of few openings.
Klopp said he spoke with Salah on the night of the injury and added that since then any contact has been with the Liverpool medical staff. And if Salah recovers quickly, then Klopp says he could yet return to AFCON to help Egypt.
"I'm not a doctor. I would say if Egypt qualifies for the final then probably yes. Ivory Coast I'm sure it's a wonderful country, but we have no people from us there. They have people who have to take care of the players who are playing."
Núñez's physicality caused Bournemouth all sorts of trouble. He has been at times a bemusing player to watch, someone who misses chances he should take and then strokes home occasional wonder goals he has no right to score. After one mishit in the first half, the Bournemouth fans serenaded him with a version of "you're just a s--t Andy Carroll," but Núñez was unbowed and unflustered, and when he had his first real sniff of a chance he converted it. It was a brilliant goal in the 49th minute.
The result means Liverpool extend their lead over second-placed Manchester City to five points, but have now played a game more than Pep Guardiola’s champions. Bournemouth stay 12th and are nine points clear of the drop zone.
Next up, Liverpool travel to Fulham for the second leg of their League Cup semi final on Wednesday night. Bournemouth are in action in the FA Cup fourth round on Thursday evening when they entertain Championship side, Swansea City.
