First Lady Melania Trump’s tweet in support of her husband’s unhinged belief that the election may have been stolen from him via “illegal” ballots is disappointing, to say the least. While Mrs. Trump’s loyalty to her husband is admirable, she does neither him nor the country any service by feeding into his paranoid and ultimately self-destructive worst impulses. The last thing that Donald Trump or the country need at this point is another enabler to encourage him to continue on a path that will not only prove unsatisfying for him but has the potential to damage our democracy.
