Jets QB Aaron Rodgers will return to practice on Wednesday in a limited capacity, according to HC Robert Saleh, which opens the 21-day practice window.

"This isn't so much getting ready to play as much as it is a progression in his rehab," HC Robert Saleh said. "For Aaron, what he'll be doing in practice is no different than what he'd be doing on [a side field] with regard to certain drill and individual. Instead of throwing with staff members, he'll be throwing to teammates. There's no added risk to it. There are certain things that he's been cleared for that we'll allow him to do."

Leonard Floyd. Rodgers initially stood up before he fell back to the turf.

"This isn't so much getting ready to play as much as it is a progression in his rehab," Saleh told reporters. "I can't get into all the detail in regards to IR designations and where we stand and why we are able to do this. But for Aaron, what he will be doing in practice is no different than what he would be doing in Field Three -- as you all watch it. In regards to certain drills, individuals, being able to throw it instead of staff members it's teammates. So, there's no added risk to it. There's certain things that he's been cleared that we are going to allow him to do."

Added Saleh: "Aaron is not going to do anything to put himself in harm's way."

Zach Wilson, who started the next nine games before being benched in favor of journeyman Tim Boyle. Boyle will make his second start Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons.

Rodgers could beat that by several weeks if he comes back this season.

“I promise Aaron is not going to do anything that puts himself in harm’s way if he's not healthy to play,” Saleh said. "Aaron is very, very smart. That’s not something he’s going to put himself at risk for. With that said, though, he is driven. He is achieving things that have never been achieved with regards to this injury and it’s the progression with regard to rehab he’s on.

“And I think it’s remarkable what he is doing, but he is also smart in regards to how fast it's going.”
