2023 Week 11: Lions vs. Bears 26-31

Sport by : (PRESSBEE) -

Detroit Lions stepped up big time to secure an improbable 31-26 victory at Ford Field Sunday over the Chicago Bears.

Despite turning the ball over four times and finding themselves in a 26-14 hole late, Detroit found a way.

Quarterback Jared Goff's 32-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Jameson Williams kicked off the comeback with two minutes and 59 seconds left. Then the defense forced a three and out that took just 15 seconds off the clock giving it back to Detroit's offense.

Sam LaPorta.

Goff ended the game magnificently, going 5 for 5 for 71 yards with a 32-yard touchdown to Jameson Williams that cut the Lions' deficit to 26-21 after the extra point with 2:59 to go.

After the Lions' defense held the Bears to a pivotal three-and-out, Goff orchestrated the game-winning drive with 2:33 to go and 73 yards to get there. He was 4 of 6 for 35 yards before David Montgomery found pay dirt against his old squad. Goff tacked on a two-point conversion when he connected with Sam LaPorta for a 29-26 advantage.

Penei Sewell said that type of victory "definitely boosted up the morale" and confidence of the team going forward as they now prepare to host the Green Bay Packers in their annual Thanksgiving Game on Thursday at Ford Field.

"It was kind of a flashback moment where we were in those close games, coming from behind and finally coming out on top," Sewell said. "That kind of speaks for itself for what kind of team this is and the type of guys we've got in this locker room and the type of coaches."

Success doesn’t happen overnight, especially for teams that are at the start of a multiyear rebuild, but Fields playing well is only a positive for the Bears. They’ll get a grasp on exactly where Fields is in his development to close the year. Chicago will play the Vikings, Lions, Browns, Cardinals, Falcons and Packers to close the season. The first three teams on that list can be headaches to play offense against while there’s a bit of relief on the backend.

Fields is playing for his NFL future over the next month and a half. His performance against the Lions showed that he’s capable of postive things other quarterbacks are not. If he maintains this level of play against some of the tougher teams, the Bears will have a difficult decision to make at the end of the season
