MCSO: Laytonville man drowns in Eel River Monday ...Middle East

A Laytonville man died Monday after jumping into the Eel River near Dos Rios, the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office reported. According to the MCSO, deputies were dispatched to an area of the Eel River along Highway 162 around 4:40 p.m. July 31 when a possible drowning was reported. Officers from the California Highway Patrol and Round Valley Tribal Police arrived on scene first and reportedly “immediately jumped into the river to try and save the individual.” Shortly thereafter, deputies and fire personnel arrived on-scene, but the MCSO reports that none of the first responders were able “to reach the individual because he was in a very deep section of the river” near mile marker 12 on Hwy.
