Researchers at the University of Oxford’s school of archaeology have discovered evidence of a previously undocumented Roman military campaign across eastern Jordan and Saudi Arabia. In a report published in the journal Antiquity, the team said it had identified the remains of three army camps "linked to the Roman takeover of the Nabataean Kingdom in 106 AD, a civilisation centred on the world-famous city of Petra, located in Jordan". "We are almost certain they were built by the Roman army," research lead Dr Michael Fradley said.
