It isn’t every night that NYPD brass visits a precinct house and winds up springing someone from custody. But that’s what happened on Nov. 24, 2021, when Jeff Maddrey — then the chief of community affairs and now the chief of department — went to the 73rd Precinct in Brownsville. The man sprung in less than three hours was retired cop Kruythoff Forrester, who’d been taken in after allegedly menacing three children with a firearm. Maddrey greeted Forrester warmly and shook his hand on his way out the door.
