Some 470,000 diesel car owners in Germany are seeking refunds from Volkswagen over emission tests cheating. Hearings began with the automaker rejecting the judge’s call to settle the case, citing a lack of legal grounds. The scandal, which has already cost the German carmaker $32.7billion (€30bn), first broke in 2015 when US regulators showed that the company had installed so-called defeat devices in its diesel cars.
