HRW highlighted numerous cases of national security being used as a pretext to persecute activists, journalists and members of the public, including the cases of reporters Niloufar Hamedi and Elaheh Mohamadi. They were detained for covering the protests that began in the wake of the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini at the hands of the morality police for improperly wearing her hijab.Main category: Middle-East
