They are also families looking for a home as they grapple with high costs, difficulty finding places they can afford and other issues such as domestic violence. For too long, we’ve treated people in our shelters with skepticism and fear — using restrictive policies that can feel demeaning. Today, we are proud to announce a step forward centered on extending empathy and grace to our neighbors experiencing homelessness: easing shelter curfews to 11:00 p.m. for all adults across the shelter system.
