On June 3, in a tremendous victory for New York City children, the Legislature overwhelmingly passed a bill that would obligate the city’s public schools to lower class size. This bill was a long time coming: in 2003, the state’s highest court ruled in the Campaign for Fiscal Equity case that excessive class sizes in our public schools were a systemic problem that helped rob students of their right to a sound basic education.
